Cassandra Wesley is an accomplished and diverse provisional psychologist, passionate about the importance of people’s mental health & wellbeing, and how to better understand and manage it.
Warm & caring, Cassandra takes the time and persistence to explore ways to become the best version of yourself. Her compassionate & empathetic nature puts you at ease right from the start, and her attentiveness ensures you are heard with her focus always being on you and your needs.
Hailing from South Africa, Cassandra’s individual life experiences led her to the path of psychology, as she has an innate desire & passion to help others develop skills and insight into themselves. She believes that mental health is extremely important to allow ourselves as a whole to function. Through her therapy sessions, Cassandra gives you the tools and knowledge you need to work through any difficulties, assisting you to being the best version of yourself, now and the future.
Cassandra shares a safe and trustworthy environment in her sessions, ensuring there is a clear understanding between you both, so you feel assured of the fundamentals to overcome your challenges. Her approach is collaborative, open and caring, with an individualistic therapeutic style as she tailors her sessions to each individual and your current situation. Cassandra’ believes therapy is an open and honest environment, allowing you to feel comfortable to work together (you are the expert in you!).
Her experience has extended to support mentally and physical disabled children and adults, and she has been a devoted volunteer, assisting teens and adults with Traumatic Brain Injury through occupational and psychological therapy, and working to support trauma sufferers.
As an experienced Provisional Psychologist at Creating Change, Cassandra combines a Master of Science Health Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts Psychology (Honours), and a Bachelor of Arts Psychology & Criminology degrees, with extensive training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness based approaches, as well as the implementation of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
Cassandra appreciates working with people of all ages, including children, adolescents & adults. Her level of expertise is evident in the broad range of presentations she treats: stress, anxiety, intellectual/learning difficulties, OCD, depression, behavioural challenges, emotional regulation and anger, family and interpersonal issues, trauma, grief & loss, alcohol and drug dependencies, body image issues, and working together with children and their parents.
Cassandra’s accomplishments include the completion of her honours’ thesis on working memory ability and bilingualism, where she researched the advantageous and negative effects of being bilingual. South Africa has eleven official languages and most people are at least proficient in two languages (bilingual). The theory and literature show a positive correlation between working memory and bilingualism. The results showed that there is a positive relationship between working memory and bilingualism.
She has also completed research as part of her Masters on migraine management and migraine literacy between people who experience migraines and those who do not. The research results found that those that experience migraines were unaware that psychological treatment is available to assist in the treatment and management of migraines. This research stems from Cassandra’s genuine interest in the way the brain functions, how we process information and the overall outcomes.
On a personal level, Cassandra enjoys the outdoors and being active, going for a hike or walk with her dog & partner, baking and spending time with family and friends.
Cassandra is a full time therapist and devoted to our practice. She is available for appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursday’s, Friday’s & alternate Saturdays.
