Gary Wong is an accomplished psychologist with a passion for enabling anxious worriers to build resilience and find calm in the face of change. Humorous, open and friendly, he rapidly dispels your apprehension and patiently guides you to share struggles, identify strengths and advance through proven strategies for overcoming adversity.
Gary’s extensive experience has successfully helped numerous clients address what can be difficult and distressing issues. Through his customised, evidence-based approach, a father has overcome his fear of heights and now sits with his family in the highest row of the soccer stadium; a socially withdrawn teenager attends events and gatherings outside of school; and a young perfectionist mother finds mistakes and setbacks manageable.
As a Psychologist at Creating Change, Gary combines a Master of Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology, First Class Hons) from Macquarie University with experience in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectal Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. He is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).
Gary’s broad and trusted expertise stems from work in private practice, government clinics, inpatient psychiatric care, and corrective services. He is qualified to facilitate the ‘Cool Kids Anxiety Program’ and ‘Chilled Plus’, aimed at treating children and adolescents (respectively) with anxiety and mood challenges. Gary has also facilitated group therapy sessions focussed on drug and alcohol abuse, anxiety, emotion regulation, mood disorders, and adult attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. He is experienced in suicide risk assessment, intervention and prevention, and mental health first aid.
On a personal level, Gary is an avid illustrator and enjoys drawing in all mediums. He also enjoys building scale models and sculpting.
