Sam has gained valuable experience in the psychological treatment of chronic medical conditions and the management of chronic pain through Liverpool Hospital Pain and Renal Mental Health Team. It was in this role she refined her skills in assisting adults to cope with the challenges and suffering that accompanies chronic pain. Sam is a Workcover accredited practitioner and has experience with managing workplace injuries and motor vehicle accident rehabilitation.
Sam furthered her skills in her work at the Macquarie University Psychology Clinic where she implemented evidence based treatments for children, adolescents and adults. Specifically treating social anxiety, worry, sleep disturbance, depression, suicidal ideation and bereavement.
Expanding her skills further, Sam worked with the parents of children born prematurely. Through this work she assisted families to understand the children’s strengths and assisted them with strategies to further develop the child’s areas of difficulty.
During her time at the Corrective Services NSW, Personality and Behavioural Disorders Service she worked with young adults with drug and alcohol abuse or dependence.
Sam’s passion for learning propelled her to complete her PhD studying the brain and its relationship with balance. This interested then took her half way around the world to Canada where she continued to study eye movements and the balance system, publishing several papers in this area. Returning to Australia a few years ago, Sam’s interest for helping people with balance problems led her to complete further studies and a career in psychology. She maintains a strong focus on the balance system and the psychological management of tinnitus.
Sam has completed a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Sydney. Sam also holds a Bachelor of Psychology (1st class Hons) degree from the University of Sydney and a Masters of Clinical Psychology obtained at Macquarie University.
